I write a weekly short newsletter in the Community News in the Gazette. I hope people in Brighton Hill will let me know their news to include in the paper. I also contribute to Brighton Bell, the local magazine in Brighton Hill. Who has interesting or amusing ideas to share? In addition, I assist as secretary on the Brighton Bell committee.
Recently I have begun taking an interest in the new Viables Community Association, where I assist on the committee. In September, the Quiz Night in the Barn was popular. This event began at 7.45 pm, cost £4 and included Viables Farm Supper. We also had an enjoyable celebration at Christmas, when we enjoyed drinks and snacks. We were fortunate indeed to be visited by the Mayor, Councillor Paula Baker, who wished us all happy Christmas. She also hoped the new Community Association would make good progress in 2006. Keep an eye on my web site for news about future events at Viables.
I also assist as a volunteer for the Stroke Association group which meets on Monday afternoons. Members enjoy outings and games, to help them gain confidence.
Viables Office telephone number is 01256 473634.
I serve as a member of the Economic and Community Development Overview Committee, the Licensing Committee and the Personnel Committee.
I attend meetings of or take an interest in the following charities: Citizens Advice Bureau, Age Concern, Dial a Ride and Women's Refuge. I undertake voluntary work myself for the Patients Forum and Home Focus.
I am a school governor at Chalk Ridge Primary School, where I am the literacy governor, and I am also a governor at Manor Field Junior School, where I work with the Community Relations Team.
I appreciate being able to work with the schools.
DIAL-A-RIDE: This is a useful special bus service for disabled people and others who have problems with mobility. Wheelchairs can be loaded on to the buses and unloaded at the destination. It is necessary to book in advance, telephone Basingstoke 01256-462101, using the booking line: Monday to Friday, 8.30 am - 12.00 noon and 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm are the times to 'phone.
I have a councillor's surgery on the first Saturday morning in each month, 11.00 am to midday. Please call and see me in Main Reception at Brighton Hill Community College if I can be of assistance. Do you need advice from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council or have you a matter of concern to report? Remember to get in touch, either by calling at the surgery or by calling me on the telephone, 01256 465100
With best wishes from Sheila Rowland.
